Monsignor Gerald Lawrence Lewis Award
was initiated in 1992 to honor outstanding educators in the Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Raleigh and to recognize, promote and encourage teaching excellence.
An eligible nominee is a full-time, grades K-12 classroom teacher as defined by the Diocese of Raleigh Office of Education who:
- holds a current continuing professional educator’s license issued by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI)
- is responsible for lesson planning, instructional delivery, student assessment, and parent correspondence
- has taught full-time in Diocese of Raleigh schools for at least four total school years
A full-time teacher of religion/theology who holds a “master catechist” certification issued by the Diocese of Raleigh (in lieu of a NCDPI license) also is an eligible nominee.
